Details about scholarships.

1) KPM Bursary
  • Eligibility: Obtained 9A+ and above in SPM
  • Enroll in: Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) or Matriculation or Foundation courses provided by IPTA or International Baccalaurate (IB) or A-Level (I will focus on A-Level only)
  • Sponsor students up to Pre-University level only. 
  • Accommodation provided (on-campus), but you can decide whether you want to stay or not. 
  • A-Level: Sponsor 3 subjects only
  • Allowances: RM430 where this is used to pay your books and food; hostel rental is not required. 
  • Exclusive for KPM Bursary students: can apply to JPA scholarship to pursue local or overseas studies. (as stated below) But this is applicable only till 2015; 2016/2017 (SPM 2014 and later) onward it is open to all students. 

2) JPA Scholarship (Degree, not the Engineering one)

  • Eligibility:          
          i) a Malaysia citizen
          ii) For local universities: CGPA 3.50 (STPM) / 3.75 (Matriculation/Asasi) / A-

              Level 12 Points / IB 33 Points [Without any C in the subjects]
              For overseas universities: CGPA 3.75 / A-Level 14 Points / IB 38 Points 
              [Without any C in the subjects]
          iii) Obtained unconditional offer from 20 listed universities in THE (Times 
                Higher Education) except medicine, pharmacy and dentistry fields.

  • Pursue in: Any field stated in the website (what I know is every field...) 
  • Applicants don't have to be interviewed to get the scholarship, they just need to have the unconditional offer letter from the listed university and apply. 
  • Note: However, all of this above are subject to change as JPA is changing the requirement of scholarship. Applicants for 2016 or 2017 onward must go through interview. 

  • Open for undergraduate programme at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) and foreign universities.
    1.   UTP -- Complete 1-year Foundation Programme prior to pursuing the Bachelor’s Degree
    2.   Foreign universities -- Complete up to 24 months of Pre-University Programme prior to pursuing the Bachelor’s Degree (chosen by Petronas)
  • Entry requirement
    1.   Technical field -- Obtained a minimum of 7A+ and 2A-in SPM 2014 inclusive of: Physics and Chemistry
    2.  Non-technical field -- Obtained a minimum of 7A+ and 2A-in SPM 2014

  • This is sponsorship not scholarship, which applicants must know. 
  • For pre-u level, allowance is RM600/month. Accommodation provided (on-campus)
  • Book and stationary alllowance: RM1000 per year
  • Laptop allowance: RM3500, once, throughout the whole sponsorship
  • One test allowance (eg TOEFL/IELTS/SAT/ACT)
  • 2 return air ticket for Bachelor's Degree
  • Job training
  • Bond period: 5 years
  • Petronas will choose for you: what pre-u program to pursue and the place to study it, what degree program and the place where you are going. 
  • After completing your Bachelor's Degree, scholars must return to Malaysia and wait for the job offer from Petronas. If Petronas can't get a job for scholar within 6 months, scholar will be released and pay 20% of the sponsorship. 
  • If scholar failed the job interview, and thus failed to get a job in Petronas, scholar must pay back 60% of the sponsorship. 
  • If scholar get to work in Petronas, he/she may work for 2 years, then pay back the money for the remaining 3 years sponsorship. 
  • Note: This is what I asked for the overseas program, subject to change.
